Why Culture

Do any of these phrases sound familiar?

  • “I heard about this ‘culture’ thing for our company and it sounds awesome and something I can relate to…but I don’t know where to start.”

  • “We have core values, but I can’t remember all of them.”

  • “My company is really proud of our core values and we all must carry around this laminated card with them listed on it.”

These are all direct quotes people have shared with me when talking about this soft and squishy thing called “culture”.

People get stuck.  They don’t know what to do.  They carry the laminated card because they aren’t really living their core values, but that’s better than nothing, right? They write down things that are aspirational, or obvious, or basic.

But NONE of it is their real culture.

If companies have taken the step of actually trying to identify their core values, they usually land on a list of 5-10 words that if true, would make their organization one of the best in the world.

The fact is, most of us are not Steve Jobs, Warren Buffett or Jeff Bezos.  We aren’t going to change the world with a revolutionary idea (don’t you love it when a startup pitches their revolutionary product that is going to change the world?  *Insert eye roll here*.)

But that doesn’t mean we can’t be great at creating an organization where culture rules, and, drives the business to the next level.

ANYONE can do culture.  ANYONE can be great at culture.
You just have to TRY.

Come and join me, Matt Jung, Co-Founder of Comfort Research on The Culture Experience where I will share some of our own struggles with culture, share the rules we uncovered around what is an awesome set of core values, and a system to drive your culture.  And who does this apply to?…anyone.  Drive your organization or yourself through the powerful use of this amazing thing called culture.
